Facts About the Chaniya Choli and Its Latest Trends

The chaniya choli is a traditional Indian garment for women and it is currently enjoying a lot of renaissance in the fashion world. The outfit dates back to the ancient times and it has been the favorite dress for Indian women for centuries until other outfits like the sari became popular. These outfits offer a great deal of flexibility and comfort and yet it still exudes the feminine elegance. With time and changes in trends, the outfit has evolved into a more modern form with different varieties and types. This garment is usually confused with the lehenga choli since they are almost similar. However, one of the major differences between the two is that the chaniya choli is part of daily wear while the lehenga choli is mostly worn during weddings. These outfits are mostly common in the Gujarat and Rajasthan regions of India. However, it is nowadays worn in all regions of India but with different variations in cut and styles. It is important to choose the right fabric for this outfit and also ensure that it fits well.

·       The Ghagra
This is a long skirt that has different types of cuts depending on the occasion and style. There are different designs and styles of the ghagra. For festivals, the ghagra is made to be wide and flaring while for weddings and parties and weddings the ghagra is made to be circular. ·       Choli
This is a well-fitting blouse that ends just above the navel. The area between the navel and the skirt is left naked and gives the wearer a good look.

·       Dupatta
Dupatta is also called the odhini and it is a long scarf that is draped over the shoulders and around the body. It is worn around the neck and falls on the shoulder or on the head. It completes the look and brings some sense of decency.

Variations and styles of the outfit
This outfit has different styles in different parts of India and for different occasions. For example in the Southern region of India, a simple version of this outfit is popular especially among young girls and it is called the pavada. There are also designer chaniyas that are modernized. These designer chaniyas have daring modern cuts with intricate, hand woven embroideries of different kinds. These outfits have some very interesting variations for example the collar choli, the backless choli and the spaghetti strap cholis. The designs majorly depend on the occasion and most of these outfits are brightly colored since they are mainly worn during colorful events such as festivals and weddings.



Latest trends

These Indian outfits have become popular and designers have increasingly started combining modern elements with traditional ones when designing these outfits. This combination is done to keep the traditional authenticity of the outfit while giving it an edge with the modern elements. A popular modern trend with these outfits is combining a daring low cut or backless choli with an embroidered ghagra and dupatta.
